Cycling holiday company Saddle Skedaddle has a number of new itineraries for 2025, including an epic road cycling trip across four European countries – from Prague to Venice.
One for the 2025 sports travel bucket list, the 21-day road cycling holiday covers almost 900 miles and takes riders from the Czech Republic, across the whole of Austria, east to west through Slovenia, before a grand arrival in Venice, Italy.
The journey from Central Europe to the Mediterranean begins in the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, before venturing out into the Czech countryside along a mix of country roads and cycle paths. After exploring some of the towns and cities along the way, including the UNESCO World Heritage site, Český Krumlov, it’s time to cross the border into Austria. After crisscrossing the Czech Republic and Austrian border, the journey through Austria heads south; stopping in Tulln an der Donau where there’s the option to spend the day visiting Vienna – Austria’s capital city. Back on the bikes, the route continues into the Styria region – the green heart of Austria – before reaching its vibrant capital, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Graz.
The little town of Šentilj marks the entry point to Slovenia, the third country on the trip. After testing the legs by climbing the northern foothills of the Bocek Mountains, it’s a gentle ride along the Savinja and Sava Rivers to the centre of Slovenia’s capital city, Ljubljana. Crossing the border into Italy via Nova Gorica, which along with its Italian neighbour, Gorizia, a European Capital of Culture in 2025, the final few days in the saddle takes riders out into the Veneto plain and along mainly flat land to the market town of Portogruaro and its ancient harbour on the Lemene River. It’s then a leisurely journey along a cycle path hugging the Sile River to the harbour of Punta Sabbioni, before jumping on a ferry to Venice.
