Aruba sports holidays: golf, beach tennis and motorsport

The sun-drenched Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba is the perfect place for combining a relaxing holiday with a spot of golf, beach tennis or motor racing.

Lying 15 miles north of the South American coastline, the island benefits from year-round sunshine, an average temperature of 32C and a cooling breeze. It offers something for every visitor, from luxury brand shopping in the capital Oranjestad to a host of watersports – or just relaxing on the island’s award-winning beaches.

Many hotels and resorts offer a range of wellness-focused activities, such as dance therapy, fitness classes and yoga sessions. Hiking along the rugged northern coast of the island or kayaking and stand-up paddle-boarding over tranquil turquoise waters are also suggested for those seeking nature-inspired activities.

Golf in Aruba

With world-class golf courses, white sand beaches, top resorts, amazing cuisine and a vibrant nightlife, Aruba is a big hitter for tourists.

Even if your play around the fairways and greens is not quite up to the standard of the Women’s Open champion Anna Nordqvist or The Open winner Collin Morikawa, Aruba’s courses will still make you feel like a championship pro.

Golf enthusiasts can indulge their passion at two courses on the island: Tierra del Sol Resort & Golf and The Links at the Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort.

The course at Tierra Del Sol is a spectacular one on the northern side of the island. It is a PGA-approved 18-hole course designed by the renowned Robert Trent Jones II, offering magnificent ocean views and a panorama of the rugged desert-like landscape of Aruba.

The nine-hole course at Divi Village is sited between the luxurious holiday villas of the complex. It is surrounded by the native flora and fauna of Aruba and gives visitors a real sense of the island’s nature.

Beach tennis and motorsport in Aruba

Aruba is regarded as the birthplace of beach tennis – the No.1 beach sport on the island. In November 2021 the island is set to host the Aruba Open Beach Tennis Championships

Courts and paddles can be found at the Aruba Beach Tennis Clubhouse at the Tropicana Resort located on Eagle Beach. There are also additional beach tennis courts at MooMba Beach Bar on Palm Beach.

As well as golf and beach tennis, visitors to Aruba can also enjoy watching motorsport at Palomarga Raceway Park. The international drag races attract around 30,000 spectators and 4,500 participants each season to enjoy the monthly races in San Nicolas.
