Event guide: Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games

The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games take place from 4-20 February. There will be approximately 90 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participating and around 2,900 athletes are expected to compete. The full schedule can be found at beijing2022.cn

Following the Winter Olympics, Beijing will then host the 2022 Winter Paralympics from 4-13 March 2022.

Sports at Beijing 2022

There will be 109 events at Beijing 2022 with seven new events making their Olympic debuts: Women’s Monobob in Bobsleigh, a Mixed Team Relay in Short Track, Men’s and Women’s Freeski Big Air events and Mixed Team Aerials in Freestyle Skiing, a Mixed Team event in Ski Jumping and a Mixed Team Snowboard Cross in Snowboard. The sports are:

Venues and competition zones

The Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 will have a strong emphasis on sustainability. All venues will be powered by 100% renewable energy, while natural, low-carbon-emission CO2 refrigeration systems will be used at most of the Beijing 2022 ice venues – the first time this low climate impact technology will be used in China and at the Olympic Winter Games. Furthermore, seven out of the 12 competition and non-competition venues within the Beijing 2022 competition zone will be legacy venues from the Beijing 2008 summer games.

Three competition zones will feature at the 2022 Winter Olympic: Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. Events will be held at 13 venues.

Beijing zone 

  • “Bird’s Nest” National Stadium: opening and closing ceremonies 
  • National Aquatics Centre: curling/wheelchair curling 
  • National Indoor Stadium: ice hockey/para ice hockey 
  • Wukesong Sports Centre: ice hockey 
  • National Speed Skating Oval: speed skating 
  • Capital Indoor Stadium: short track speed skating, figure skating 
  • Big Air Shougang: freestyle skiing big air, snowboard big air 
  • Beijing Olympic Village 

Yanqing zone 

  • National Sliding Centre: bobsleigh, skeleton, luge 
  • National Alpine Ski Centre: alpine skiing/para alpine skiing 
  • Yanqing Olympic Village 

Zhangjiakou zone 

  • National Biathlon Centre: biathlon/para biathlon and para cross-country skiing 
  • National Ski Jumping Centre: ski jumping, nordic combined (ski jumping) 
  • National Cross-Country Centre: cross-country, nordic combined (cross-country) 
  • Genting Snow Park: freestyle skiing, snowboarding/para snowboarding
  • Zhangjiakou Olympic Village
