The 2025 Tour de France, the 112th edition of cycling’s most prestigious race, is scheduled from 5-27 July 2025. This year’s Grand Départ will commence in Lille, marking the first time since 2020 that the Tour is entirely confined within French borders.
The race encompasses 21 stages, totaling approximately 3,320 kilometres. The breakdown includes seven flat stages, six hilly stages, six mountain stages with five summit finishes, and two individual time trials.
The summit finishes are slated for Hautacam, Luchon-Superbagnères, Mont Ventoux, Courchevel Col de la Loze, and La Plagne Tarentaise. Notably, Mont Ventoux makes a return, adding a historic and challenging ascent to the route.
The Tour’s parcours is divided into two distinct halves. The initial 10 stages favour sprinters and puncheurs, featuring predominantly flat and hilly terrains. The latter half intensifies with arduous mountain stages in the Pyrenees and Alps, which are expected to be pivotal in the general classification battle.
The peloton will consist of 22 teams, each comprising eight riders, totaling 176 participants. This lineup includes all 18 UCI WorldTour teams, the two highest-ranked UCI ProTeams, and two additional squads selected by the organisers.
Among the notable contenders, defending champion Tadej Pogačar aims for his fourth Tour title. His primary rival, Jonas Vingegaard, seeks to reclaim the yellow jersey after previous victories. Belgian prodigy Remco Evenepoel, who secured a podium finish in 2024, is also anticipated to challenge for top honours.
The route’s design, with its demanding climbs and strategic time trials, is expected to offer a thrilling contest among these elite cyclists.
