Independent cycling holiday and tour specialist Saddle Skedaddle has expanded its UK offering, and created new trips in Europe and in international destinations such as Chile and Morocco.

In response to the huge demand for new UK cycling holidays, Saddle Skedaddle launched its eight-day guided road cycling holiday in Carmarthenshire and the Brecon Beacons in 2021.

Beginning in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park, the first day’s riding is characterised by a succession of climbs and descents across the wild and open landscape of the Brecon hills. The ride to the Rhondda Valley introduces more significant climbs, the biggest being Rhigos Mountain, which features broad, sweeping hairpins.

After enjoying some of the best riding the central Beacons region has to offer, its time for a dramatic scenery change as the route heads into Carmarthenshire. Highlights include riding through the green expanse of Mynydd Illtud Common, exploring Tywi Valley and Brechfa forest, and a thrilling 10-mile descent on the final ride of the trip that takes in the rolling green hillsides, river valleys, castles, and quaint villages and towns the region is famous for.

Monmouthshire and the Brecon Beacons

Self-guided cycling holiday through Italy’s Prosecco hills 

Famous as the destination that produces one of the world’s most popular drinks, Italy’s Prosecco hills is also a Unesco World Heritage Site (awarded in 2019). Saddle Skedaddle’s new eight-day guided cycling holiday through the vineyards of Prosecco begins with a classic ride in the foothills of the Montello before climbing to Asolo, one of the most beautiful towns in Italy.

Crossing the Piave River into the heart of the Prosecco region, the route passes vineyard after vineyard, including Conegliano Valdobbiadene which produces Prosecco Superiore DOCG, and the exclusive DOCG Cartizze sparkling wine.

Following a day spent exploring the lakes around Revine, Lago di St Maria, and Lago di Lago, the final ride of the trip passes some of the region’s major historical sites, including Castello di Collalto and the town of Nervesa della Battaglia, before reaching the city of Treviso.

Guided cycling holiday along Patagonia’s Carretera Austral 

One of the world’s classic cycling routes, Saddle Skedaddle’s 15-day cycling adventure along Patagonia’s Carretera Austral is perfect for experienced riders looking to enjoy a real wilderness adventure.

The first few days of the trip are spent criss-crossing the estuaries and fjords of Los Lago before moving inland for some challenging climbs, including the 650m Cuesta Moraga. Heading into the Aysen region, home to the Rosselot Lake National Reserve and Ventisquero Colgante, there’s a chance to explore the region’s capital, Coyhaique, on a non-cycling day.

Other highlights include tackling the 21 switchbacks of the Queulat Pass, the largest ascent of the Carretera; and the roller-coaster ride along the Las Llaves Pass, which hugs the turquoise waters of Chile’s largest lake, Lago General Carrera.

Accommodation on the trip includes an eco-lodge on the shores of a fjord in Puyuhuapi, and lodges on the edge of Lago General Carrera, close to the famous Marble Cathedral caves.
