Sport and travel-related 30-day challenges for New Year 2021

Getting out to watch live sport or travelling to a sporting destination may be off limits for many of us in early 2021, but that doesn’t mean you can’t set yourself some new year resolutions. From fitness and yoga to photography and reading, here’s some sports travel ideas for your 30-day challenges in January.

By Mike Starling

Running and walking

You don’t need to go all Rocky and be up at 4am for a 10-mile run through the snow. Just put your trainers on and go for a 10- or 15-minute run or jog outside. It will be tough at first, but take it slow and build it up. If running isn’t your thing, then just make walking a daily routine.

Download an exercise or fitness app

This is one thing I will be doing in the new year. I’m not a big fan of the gym (except for the treadmill) so to build up some strength I’ll be downloading an exercise app that will guide me through a month-long schedule. If you have any suggestions please let me know!

Yoga With Adriene

Adriene Mishler became a lockdown star with her yoga videos on YouTube. Millions of people across the world have followed Adriene’s classes and for January 2021 she is launching a 30-day “Breath” yoga journey

Watch a travel show every day

YouTube is a treasure trove for travel vlogs and travel shows. A quick search of “sports travel”, “sports holidays” and “sports trips” brings up a host of interesting results. For the challenge, why not search for a different place on YouTube every day and learn about that destination’s sporting teams, venues and activities? This is a great way of getting inspiration and to research your next trip.

30-day reading challenge

Many people may want to reduce their screen time as part of their new year’s resolutions. If that’s the case for you, why not set a reading goal? With so many travel books – and travel-related novels – out there to choose from, you could make it a daily routine to read up on a destination you’d like to visit in the future.

Post a sporty travel pic on Instagram

Like I said earlier the opportunity to travel will be limited for many people. If that’s the case for you, why not take a look back on sporting trips you have been on and post your best pictures on Instagram or Twitter throughout the month.
