French tennis legend Henri Leconte is to host an exclusive sport and wellbeing retreat at Abama Resort Tenerife, which is located on the southwest coast of the island. Leconte, a former world No.5, was a Davis Cup winner with France in 1991 and in his career he won 19 ATP titles.
Taking place from 9-12 June 2022, the event at the award-winning resort will offer guests a long weekend of golf and tennis, as well as a daily gourmet menu offering highly nutritious, restorative food.
Following a welcome dinner in the resort’s Melvin by Martín Berasategui restaurant, on 10 June guests will have the opportunity to take part in a golf tournament, playing on one of the best courses in the world, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and the island of La Gomera. The course at Abama Resort was recently awarded the Golf Digest editors’ choice award for Continental Europe in 2021, for the fourth year in a row. The golf course, designed by Dave Thomas, is integrated into the natural landscape with more than 25,000 palm trees and more than 300 species of subtropical plant life.
Tenerife offers the ideal climate year-round not only for golf but also for tennis. The seven tennis courts of the Abama Tennis Academy have previously been used for professional ATP and WTA tournaments, and on 11 June, the Academy will host a lively demonstration match between Leconte and a local professional tennis player. Players looking to improve their technique will then receive exclusive, one-on-one advice and personalised coaching from the former tennis pro.
A visit to an organic farm on the island is also part of the day’s itinerary, during which guests will have the chance to prepare a delicious lunch using fresh, organic and healthy produce during a cooking workshop.
Those guests taking part in the “Wellness with Henri Leconte” weekend will stay in the resort’s five-star hotel, Las Terrazas de Abama Suites. The hotel is offering a special package for the event, with three nights on a full board basis. This includes access to all hotel facilities and participation in the wellness weekend activities. In between the sports events and workshops, participants can spend time enjoying the wider resort and make use of the range of other sports and wellness facilities at special rates. Alongside its golf course and tennis academy, Abama Resort Tenerife boasts an exceptional range of facilities, including multiple swimming pools, a kids camp, and Michelin-starred restaurants.
The three-night programme starts from €2,160pp inclusive of activities and full board accommodation at Las Terrazas de Abama Suites (excluding flights and transfers). Spaces are strictly limited. See abamahotels.com
