Lord’s Cricket Ground: plans approved for Tavern and Allen stands redevelopment

Redevelopment plans for Lord’s Cricket Ground's Tavern and Allen stands have been approved by members of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and Westminster City Council's Planning Committee.  The £61.8m project, which was put to the MCC’s 18,000-strong membership at its AGM, will provide improved catering, hospitality and accessibility, as well as increasing the overall ground capacity by an additional 1,100 seats. MCC Members’ approval comes after Westminster City Council’s Planning Committee unanimously resolved to grant planning consent to the Tavern and Allen project at a meeting on 16 April.  MCC is now ready to enter the construction phase of the redevelopment, due to begin in late September, at the end of the cricket season. Women’s cricket in England prepares for a ‘truly memorable summer’

Women’s cricket in England is set for a “new era” this summer with the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy returning to the schedule alongside the new Women’s Regional T20 tournament.  The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the fixtures for the summer and there will be 56 matches played across both tournaments.  The Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy will begin on 29 May with each of the eight teams to play each other once in the group stage. The final is to be held on 25 September. The Women’s Regional T20 will start on 26 June with the eight teams split into two groups of four. Cricket: England to play home fixtures against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India in summer 2021

The England men's one-day and Test cricket teams are set for an action-packed summer in 2021 after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a provisional schedule of fixtures.  In June and July Sri Lanka will visit England to play three one-day internationals (ODIs). Also in July Pakistan are England’s opponents for three ODIs and three Twenty20 (IT20) games. The Hundred postponed: 2021 launch will be ‘critical’ for future of English cricket 

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) CEO Tom Harrison admits the decision to postpone the launch of The Hundred is a disappointing one, but the event in 2021 will play a “critical” role in the sport’s revival and long-term future.  The ECB’s new 100-ball tournament was due to start this summer. However, like many sporting events in the UK, it has been called off due to Covid-19. Women’s T20 cricket proposed for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games Federation’s executive board has approved proposals for three new sports to be included at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Beach volleyball, Para table tennis and women’s Twenty20 cricket have been recommended for inclusion in the 2022 programme. The plans will now be put to a final vote of the CGF’s general assembly, which is made up of the 71 member Commonwealth Games Associations. Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium, where all of the women’s cricket matches would be played, is currently hosting matches at the ICC Cricket World Cup and will also host the opening Test match of the Ashes series between England and Australia.
