Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji: climbing routes and activities in Shizuoka

Home to the iconic Mount Fuji and located just one hour by bullet train from Tokyo, the prefecture of Shizuoka is set to welcome the opening of the climbing season of Japan’s tallest mountain.  There are a total of four climbing routes to Mt. Fuji’s summit – 3,776m above sea level – with Shizuoka boasting three. In 2023, the routes in Shizuoka are set to open from 10 July to 10 September. All trails to the summit of Mt. Fuji start at different points boasting different conditions and difficulty levels: Subashiri route Starting at Subashiri 5th Station, this route heads to the summit from the east side with separate ascending and descending routes. 2021 Tokyo Marathon postponed to 6 March 2022

Organisers of the Tokyo Marathon have announced that the 2021 edition of the event has been postponed until 6 March 2022.  Japan’s capital city is still in a state of emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic and it’s not possible for the marathon to go ahead on the scheduled date of 17 October.  In a statement the Tokyo Marathon race director Tad Hayano said: “We have been preparing to deliver an enjoyable event while ensuring safety, not only of our runners but of each and every individual involved in the event. Until the last possible moment, we have explored various ways of delivering the event in October, however, in consideration of the current status of the outbreak, we have made a regrettable decision to postpone the 2021 event and give up on the 2022 event.  “I would like t...

Japan’s first esports hotel to open in Osaka in 2020

The city of Osaka will be the home of Japan’s first esports hotel when it opens this year.  Featuring gaming facilities and 94 beds over nine floors, the “Esports Hotel E-Zone Cyberspace” will offer no-frills accommodation in order to prioritise on the in-game experience. ‘A light at the end of this dark tunnel’: 2021 dates confirmed for Tokyo Olympics

International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach believes the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics will provide a light at the end of the “dark tunnel” that is the coronavirus. Rugby World Cup: 90% of the 1.8m available tickets have been sold

Organisers have revealed that sales are “exceeding all expectations” for official 2019 Rugby World Cup travel and hospitality packages.
